Speaker:

Equip for Equality Staff Attorney and Skadden Fellow Eleanor Kittilstad

Topic:

Eleanor Kittilstad will be speaking about her project which focuses on preventing the use of inappropriate calls about students with disabilities to the police or the Illinois Statewide crisis referral services known as SASS (Screening, Assessment, and Support Services). Frequently, the police/SASS are used by schools  as a behavior management tool to remove children with disability-related behaviors from school, when they should be developing appropriate special education supports to address behavior without school exclusion. While direct representation is the focus, Eleanor is also tracking trends related to this issue to look for opportunities for systemic change.

CLE Hours:

1.5 hours of CLE credit will be available for Illinois attorneys who participate.

Accommodations:

If you need accommodations to participate in the meeting, please email Barry Taylor by September 18. For those who can’t participate in person, you can participate via teleconference by calling 1-800-910-8278. When prompted, dial Participant Code 1940990#.
